Criminal Justice student at Chippewa Valley Technical College and seven-year
restaurant leader — building toward a career in law enforcement through discipline,
community service, and academic excellence.
My name is Hunter Moritz, and my professional story began in November 2018, at fourteen,
when I took my first job as a crew member at a McDonald's restaurant in Menomonie,
Wisconsin. What started as an entry-level position has grown — with five progressive
promotions — into what will be an eight-year career this November as the 1st Assistant
Manager responsible for crew leadership, scheduling, training, and daily
profit-and-loss oversight at a high-volume restaurant serving over 1,000 customers a day.
In August 2025 I began my Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice at
Chippewa Valley Technical College, where I currently hold a 3.4 GPA and have made the
Dean's List in both Spring and Fall 2025. My coursework spans Constitutional Law,
Criminal Law, Contemporary Issues in Criminal Justice, Professional Communications,
Technical Report Writing, and Introduction to Diversity Studies. Outside the classroom
I have completed four patrol ride-alongs with the Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office,
Dunn County Sheriff's Office, Menomonie Police Department, and the Wisconsin State
Patrol, along with a seven-plus hour job shadow with Investigator Jeff Small, Youth
Services Officer at the Menomonie Police Department.
I serve my community as a Youth Development Professional at the Boys & Girls Club
(a role that began as volunteer work and is now part-time paid staff), as a youth
mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters, and as a volunteer with Stepping Stones of Dunn
County. I hold an FAA Part 107 Drone License. My long-term goal is to serve the
community I grew up in — graduating from the CVTC Law Enforcement Academy, earning a
patrol position with the Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office or Eau Claire Police
Department, and eventually working toward a K-9 handler or Field Training Officer role.
Core Skills
Daily safe counting, cash deposits, and accurate P&L reporting at McDonald's demand absolute honesty and consistency. I hold myself to the same standard in academic work and community service — the same ethical foundation that Wisconsin's Intervention Options model and the IACP's professionalism standards require of every officer.
Grounded in Sir Robert Peel's principle that "the police are the public, and the public are the police." Coursework in Constitutional Law and Diversity Studies has reinforced my commitment to fair, transparent, and equitable decision-making in any role I hold.
Five progressive promotions over seven-plus years at McDonald's, now leading 80+ employees as 1st Assistant Manager. Daily responsibilities include delegating tasks, coaching team members through challenges, and making decisions that balance people, performance, and policy.
Refined across thousands of customer interactions, peer coaching sessions, and formal academic writing — including my Constitutional Law capstone and Psychiatric Health presentation. Comfortable adapting tone and detail level to audiences ranging from crew members to instructors to sworn officers.
Managing a high-volume restaurant requires rapid diagnosis and resolution — equipment failures, staffing gaps, customer escalations. I apply the same structured approach (assess, options, action, review) that the SARA model teaches for community-oriented policing.
Every shift is a team sport. I onboard new hires, coordinate with fellow managers across shifts, and work side-by-side with crew under pressure. I approach team members as colleagues first — the same collaborative mindset essential in any law enforcement unit.
Balancing a full-time 1st Assistant Manager role with a full-time CJ course load, volunteer hours at Big Brothers Big Sisters and Boys & Girls Club, and regular ride-alongs and job shadows — all while maintaining a 3.4 GPA and Dean's List recognition.
Seven years of front-line experience, including daily de-escalation of tense customer interactions. This foundation directly translates to the procedural justice skills required for community policing — remaining calm, listening actively, and treating every person with dignity.
Real-world experience handling equipment emergencies, workplace injuries, aggressive customers, and staffing shortfalls. I have internalized that the first step is always to stay calm, assess, then act — the same mindset that Wisconsin's five-step Intervention Options model asks of officers.
Formal training through CVTC's Technical Reporting course (Inst. Long), including a 3,000+ word technical instruction report, a mechanism description on the breathalyzer, and an APA-formatted Constitutional Law analysis of four landmark Supreme Court cases. Fluent in APA 7 and professional documentation standards.
Onboarded and trained new crew members across every station of the restaurant. I build procedural walkthroughs, give real-time feedback, and document progress — experience that transfers directly to the Field Training Officer role I plan to pursue.
Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for academic reports, spreadsheets, and professional presentations. My capstones and coursework are produced in these tools to program-specified formatting standards.
